A NEW FOCUS – TAX AND LAW UPDATE
SOUTHAMPTON - The Rosebowl, 14 April 2010 (8:30 – 12:00)
During the recent downturn, most organisations have had to focus on their core business to ensure survival and take advantage of the markets that will hopefully emerge in the aftermath.
Understandably, businesses may have been less focussed on tax and legal compliance but given the way in which HM Revenue & Customs are taking a strong position against non-compliance these areas should, once again, be directed towards the top of the corporate agenda.
Given HMRC’s renewed focus on tax compliance and planning, a leading group of local tax and legal practitioners have come together for a seminar designed to highlight a range of practical measures for all businesses to consider.
The presenters will be:
· John Crawford of The VAT Consultancy;
· Geoff Bond of RM2 Consultants;
· Paul Coombes and Azad Majid of Action Tax Consulting; and
· Izaz Ali and Ben Evans of Lawdit Solicitors.
During the course of the morning, the speakers will deliver individual presentations on each of the subjects outlined below. In the last 30 minutes you will be able to put your questions to the panel to receive comprehensive advice that will take into account any interaction between tax and commercial law. Given the premium normally associated with the provision of such comprehensive, value-added advice we are confident that this free seminar will prove a worthwhile investment for your business.
End of year update
Paul Coombes will discuss the associated employment tax issues to ensure that you don’t mistakenly make termination payments taxable and NICable in full where some basic planning could avoid such an effect.
The presentation should enable you to gain a clear understanding of how complex an area this is, and the likely risk of action from former employees or HMRC should you get this wrong!
Tax mitigation and risk profiling
John Crawford will outline HMRC’s new approach to tax compliance and risk management.
He will highlight a range of ideas to mitigate your exposure to tax, interest and penalties and might even enable you to reclaim some of the tax you have already paid!
Reward and remuneration planning
Geoff Bond will set out several employment tax reduction opportunities that businesses should consider as they continue to manage costs during the recession.
Geoff will also consider how businesses can meet the needs and aspirations of the employees that will be retained and who will be relied upon to deliver the future growth of the business. Geoff will discuss a series of reward and incentive planning opportunities, including salary sacrifice, company cars and share schemes.
Legal Update
Izaz Ali will outline e-commerce, data protection and website compliance and security issues that may have been overlooked during the recent downturn.
Izaz will highlight the steps you need to take to ensure that your e-commerce operation is legally sound and protects your business.
Ben Evans will cover protecting your brand and trade mark issues that will be of increasing importance as the economy moves out of recession.
Corporate and business tax update
Azad Majid will highlight some of the key corporate and business tax changes that have been brought out to help businesses to manage costs during the recession.
Azad will consider some simple and effective cash and tax saving measures for businesses to consider.
We anticipate that the above seminar program will offer a professional insight on important tax and legal compliance issues. The seminar should appeal to HR Directors, Financial Controllers, Finance Directors and Tax and Payroll Managers. If you would like to attend the seminar please reply by e-mail to pcoombes@actiontax.co.uk. Simply send us an e-mail confirming your interest to attendance.
The seminar will of course count towards you CPD training and certificates can be printed as required.
